Evolution is not a Choice, it is a Necessity. 🔄
Those who understand this early in their career often reach the top 1% 📈. Those who don’t will, unfortunately, be left behind. It’s sad but true.
Our Insurance Industry is continuously evolving with time and consumer needs.
Here’s how adapting to change and continuous learning worked magic for me :
I began my journey at LIC in a lower rank but saw an opportunity – completing a fellowship from the Insurance Institute of India could elevate me to a junior officer position. Early officers had a fair shot at top positions like MD, Chairman, or VPs.
Surrounded by sharp peers, fresh out of college, nailing the Associate exams in one go, the pressure was on me to clear the exams in one shot! This became my biggest motivator.
Though I didn’t ace all the papers on my first attempt, with determination, I completed the Licentiate, Associate, and Fellowship exams. Immense gratitude to Sridhar Ganesan, TES, Prabhala Srinivas, MSN, Subrahmanyam Munagala, Trinadh, Satya Srinivas, Ch Ravi, N Venkateshwar Rao, Sudhakar, Madhavi, Aruna Sridhar.
Gratitude to the wonderful teachers – UW Subject – JS Moorty garu; Actuarial – R Srinivasa Rao garu; Statistics – Prof Reddy garu, Osmania University. Hyderabad Insurance Institute Branch for organizing classes. Gratitude to my dad who pushed me to complete the Institute exams 🙏.
One proud moment was in Bangalore, during an audit. A tricky query about policy value calculations came up. Thanks to my actuarial studies, I manually calculated the values and resolved the issue. This not only boosted my confidence but also allowed me to share my knowledge with colleagues, helping them better understand and market LIC products.
Switching to Wipro was a different ball game altogether. It meant shifting gears to the North American insurance market where Life and annuities became my everyday thing. To keep up, I started the FLMI certification. With weekly exams and support from my amazing mentor, Krishna Sathyanarayan (Sathya) I got through it.
Working with Wipro also got me to the UK where I pursued the ACII certification – the gold standard in the insurance world. Completing this, along with my previous certifications, equipped me to work across ~13 different Insurance markets (like US, Austria, Germany, UK, Iran, GCC countries, and so on) seamlessly.
Year after year, I added new certifications, upskilling consistently and keeping myself updated. This is what helped me rise through the corporate rungs.
So, my friends, embrace change, keep learning, and continuously upgrade your skills. The key is to Upskill to stay Relevant. 🚀
