In the early years of my career, I equated leadership with speed.
Quick decisions. Fast responses. Constant movement. I believed the leader’s job was to always have a solution ready and push the team forward with energy.

When things are slipping, stakeholders are anxious, and teams are stretched, matching their stress doesn’t help. It adds fuel.

What made a difference was learning to pause.
To hold space, listen, slow the spiral, and bring clarity—not control.

Patience isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about knowing when doing less helps others do more.

It took years—and a few delivery firefights—to appreciate this fully. But now, it’s one of the qualities I hold closest.
