Every year, India’s most prestigious civilian awards are given by the President in the historic halls of the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Yes, I am talking about the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan awards.
On Republic Day every year, we get the incredible opportunity to celebrate our nation’s true inspirations – The Padma Awardees.
These honours are not just accolades, they’re powerful stories of courage, resilience, and dedication.
Have you ever read about the recipients and felt a surge of inspiration?
Honestly saying, I always feel it!
Their journeys show us what’s possible with relentless effort and unwavering commitment. They often come from humble beginnings, yet they rise to greatness.
However, somewhere down the line all of them were guided by their mentors when the path ahead seemed dark.
One of the most inspiring mentor-mentee relationships is that of Satish Dhawan and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
When the first attempt to launch a satellite on the SLV-3 failed in 1979, it was Satish Dhawan who faced the media, protecting his team and taking full responsibility.
But when the mission succeeded a year later in 1980, he asked Abdul Kalam, the Project Director, to address the media, giving him the recognition he deserved.
This is a great lesson in how coaching is done and leaders are built.
Satish Dhawan and Kalam went on to receive the Padma Vibhushan. The latter also received the Bharat Ratna in 1997.
Satish Dhawan is often credited as the man behind the development of Kalam into a world-beating scientist.
Now you see? That’s how important coaching and mentoring is – even the best of the best need it.
Especially in fields like Insurance Tech, having a mentor or coach can provide the direction and clarity one needs to excel.
By investing in coaching, you’d not only enhance individual performance but also contribute to the collective success of your organization.
So, I urge you to take a page from the books of our Padma award winners and have a mentor or coach on your professional journey.
This will help you more than you can imagine! Trust me 🙂
